Servicing

We arrange servicing, repairs and refinishing through Horologist, an independent Swiss watchmaking workshop on George Street. Every watch is assessed before any work is agreed, and you'll receive a written quote first.

What a service involves

In a complete service, the movement is fully dismantled, cleaned and inspected, worn parts are replaced, and it is reassembled with fresh lubrication. The watch is then regulated and tested in multiple positions. Gaskets are renewed and water resistance is pressure-tested. The case and bracelet are cleaned, and refinishing is offered as an option, never assumed.

Watchmaker servicing a mechanical watch movement

Our watchmaker

Horologist is led by Michael Arraiza, who brings more than 25 years at the bench and holds certification from Omega, IWC and Breitling. The workshop services to the standards set by the original manufacturers, from complete overhauls to crystal replacement and refinishing.

Repairs are quoted individually, whether it's a crystal, a crown or stem fault, moisture under the glass, bracelet work or a complication that's stopped working.

On polishing

Every polish removes metal. On a collectable reference, softened case edges and bevels can cost more in value than the scratches they remove. We'll recommend the lightest work that does the job, and sometimes that means none at all.

When to service

Rolex currently suggests an interval of around ten years, and Omega seven to ten years for its Co-Axial calibres. Vintage watches need attention sooner. Whatever the age, bring a watch in if it starts gaining or losing noticeably, the power reserve shortens, winding feels rough, or moisture appears under the crystal.

How it works

  1. Tell us the brand, reference and what's happening with the watch.
  2. Bring it to the showroom by appointment, or we'll arrange insured delivery.
  3. You'll receive a written quote and estimated turnaround. Nothing proceeds without your approval.
  4. Collect the watch from us, or have it returned by fully insured shipping.

Turnaround depends on the watch and the availability of parts. Any original parts that are replaced are returned to you.
